What Not to Do with Unused Fireworks

  • by

Customers can always get contact with us via emails, via the phone or even when they walk into our showroom to inquire about a variety of questions about fireworks. As you’d expect, the majority of these questions are relating to our products and our professional wedding fireworks displays However, we also get some odd, quirky, and occasionally even odd-looking question that comes up.

A recent issue, which led to this article, concerned about how to dispose of old fireworks. We were told by a friend that they found some fireworks in a lock-up from the past that had not been cleaned out in over ten years.

In the past we have considered storing any leftover fireworks in a safe manner. What do you need to do if, just like our customer, you’ve come across old fireworks that you want to dispose of them safely or you’ve had your own show in the past and just discovered an old collection of fireworks that which you’d completely forgot about.

Old Fireworks Aren’t Important.

Just because your fireworks are old, it does not mean that you need to take any extra steps on top of what you normally do when disposing of fireworks.

What is the meaning of actually eliminate fireworks?

Just turn them off!

Come on, why not simply set off the fireworks you’ve just found? Fireworks aren’t a thing that will last forever like we said in the past. Even though there’s a chance that your fireworks won’t fire properly or at all however, you’re not putting yourself at risk when you try. If the fireworks don’t launch and you don’t get them to fire, then you’ll need to let them sit within the soil for about 24 hours, so that you can be sure they aren’t in flames and aren’t likely to blow up in your face, but other than that there’s nothing to worry about.

If you are in a situation that you aren’t sure about the kind of firework or you’re not up to date on the latest firework laws and regulations in your country, then check before setting them off.

The one thing you don’t want is to have your enjoyment get ruined or to be caught because you’re setting off illegal fireworks without realizing it!

If You Decide to Get Rid of Them

If you’re a non-fireworks fan and you’ve just happened upon your fireworks like our customer did, then you might decide to dispose of them with care. Although they could be disposed of in your regular garbage however, first you need to make them inert by ‘drowning’ them. Incubating them for at least 48 hours will remove the explosive components and render them inert. When you’re done, you can dispose of the fireworks in your trash, and the water should be poured onto your garden and not down the drain since it could contain nitrates as well as other contaminants. The fireworks won’t ruin your plans, but they could even be a source of nutrition for them.

If you choose to use fireworks to set off old fireworks or to submerge them prior disposal, ensure you stay safe while doing so.
